KelliJean's Spring Break Adventure Part Two!

Spring break continued for me with a trip with my roommate Shannon down to visit her mom in Salem, Oregon. We had a blast the first day we drove down and stopped in Woodburn to go shopping and then when we got to her mom's house we just hung out, had dinner and then practiced our line dancing. The second day we went shopping again in downtown Salem, we were looking for the perfect shoes for shannon's graduation dress. Then we went over to the state capital and took a million picutes in the park and around the capital building (I havent had a chance to upload them, but they are coming). We also had lunch with shannon's mom and went shopping again! That night we went over to the local country bar called The Silver Spur and went line dancing it was a blast! I learned about five line dances. Then next day we headed back to tri-cities but stopped off in portland to go to the Portland Art Museum and St. Cupcake my favorite bakery! all in all it was a really fun trip!

Now the fun is over and its back to school!

A Nursery for Tiah's friend

I spent almost all night yesterday/early this morning helping my good friend Marcia paint her nursery. She is expecting her first baby at the end of next month.

Using earth friendly paint from a local company called Yolo, which I totally recommend, the paint did not smell at all. We used clay (brown) for 3 walls and water (blue) for the 4th. Then polka dots in water (blue) and leaf (yellowish green). It turned out beautifully, although around 1:30am Marcia's husband came in to tell us we were crazy. We finished around 2:00am and then had to make a run to Walmart for curtain rods.

It would have been smarter to start before 8:00pm, but we got it done and will be able to have the nursery completed well before baby boy Kelly arrives.

KelliJean's Spring Break Adventures Part One!

It's Spring Break! I made it successfully through winter quarter and survived! I just got back from my first spring break adventure, my friends Cara and Emily and I went to Portland for the first weekend of break. We got there on friday night and spent almost all day saturday shopping and then the big event was going to see the musical Wicked, which is about the life of the witches of Oz. The show was amazing! Tiah came with us and we all got dressed up for the show.

Then on Sunday Cara, Emily, and I went to Cannon Beach and spent the day on the coast. It was both Cara and Emily's first visit to Cannon Beach so we ate at Mo's, walked down the beach to haystack rock and toured downtown Cannon beach and looked at all the fun shops. Then on our way back to Tiah's house we stopped by my favorite cupcake bakery, Saint Cupcake!

Finally on monday all us girls, Tiah included woke up early, well for me, got coffee and went to powells bookstore in downtown and looked around for almost an hour. Then Cara, Emily and I headed off but we made a little stop at Multnomah Falls and had a picnic as well as made the short hike to the bridge over the falls. All in all the trip was a great success! the weather was ok for portland and the coast and we all had an amazing time! Now I'm back in Kennewick for the next two days and then I will be heading off to Salem, Oregon with my roommate shannon! It should be fun!!!

Tiah's St. Patrick's Day Dinner

Yesterday was St. Patrick’s Day, and I had a house full of people for dinner. This is always nice, but can get a little crowded even in a large house. I made the traditional corned beef and cabbage, while my roommate Annie made mashed potatoes & roasted potatoes. Annie’s mother brought over a pistachio cake, which was very fortuitous of her, my dessert, did not turn out.

I had attempted to make Banoffee Pie, which I realize isn’t exactly Irish but was Scottish and something I really loved when I was in Scotland. Banoffee Pie is a toffee & banana pie with a cookie crust. This is made by boiling a can of sweetened condensed milk for 4 hours to make homemade British toffee, 5 hours into the process I realized that my can of sweetened condensed milk was actually evaporated milk; I had grabbed the wrong can out of the cupboard.

Needless to say I was happy to see Molly’s cake come through the door.

I will attempt to make my Banoffee Pie at a later date since I still have a can of sweetened condensed milk in the cupboard.

KelliJean

Hello,
Well my life is not nearly as exciting as Meagan's or Tiah's. Basically it is a constant flurry of classes and school work. This Winter quarter has been full of snow! As you can tell this was the beautiful view from our porch when we got back from Christmas break! Thankfully most of the snow is gone now! And I am looking forward to spring weather!
Winter quarter is wrapping up. I took Elementary Structures of Math 2, which was all about geometry; Classroom Management, where I learned about how to organize my future classroom; Foundations of Assessment, in which I learned about different assessment theories and strategies; P.E. in the Elementary School, which as you could probably guess is all about physical education theories and practices; and Education 200 which was five weeks long and we filled about a ton of paper work. So as you can probably guess I was extremely busy with school work this quarter!

Outside of School I play intramural volleyball, which we made it to the semi-finals this quarter, and am a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. They both just give me sometime to do things other than homework.

I am excited to be done with this quarter and get spring quarter going! I have two finals down and one more to go! So for the next two days I will madly be reviewing geometry and probability for my math final! Wish me luck!

Hi Everyone,

So thought I would let people know a bit of what I have been up to in the last few months. In January after my assessments my friend Caryn and I went to Greece for the weekend. It was an amazing trip, even though it was just a weekend. We stayed in Athens in Plaka which is the old part of the city. The first full day there we went to all the big sights in Athens (Acropolis, Temple of Zeus, Ancient Agora ect.). Then the second day we went on a cruise and went to the islands of Hydra (my favorite), Poros, and Aegina. The islands were beautiful and we managed to go on a weekend that was warm and sunny, parts of the days we did not wear our coats just tshirts.

After the trip back to school and did a 6 week placement in Dundee at Ninewells hospital in pediatrics which I loved and did really well in. Now I am back in classes getting started on our masters project (10000 word literature review and 3500 word research proposal), that is due in November, and looking forward to my trip to Paris for my spring holiday in a week and a half!

Tiah

I traveled to Shelton, WA this weekend for my friend Megan’s baby shower. The drive from Portland was extremely easy, only 2 hours. Megan has lived in Shelton for almost 6 years now and this way my first trip to visit her, I always thought it would be longer travel time, I guess getting off I-5 isn’t always a bad thing.

I did see deer munching on grass along the side of the highway. Not something that you see in Portland, the most wild life we get are squirrels and if your lucky a raccoon.

Ok just a little background. We all grew up in Kennewick, Washington and have now each gone our own seperate ways. Tiah lives in Portland, Oregon and works at Portland State University as an accounting tech. Meagan is going to graduate school to be a physical therapist in Aberdeen, Scotland. And KelliJean lives in Cheney, Washington where she is studying education at Eastern Washington University. We each are very different!
